Mexico Guidelines
1.Identification
For the airlines, you will need valid state or federal government-issued picture identification. YOU WILL NEED A CURRENT PASSPORT FOR BORDER CROSSING. Keep passport in a safe spot. Keep a copy in a separate place in your luggage.
2.Border Crossing
Have Passport in hand not packed away. Be quiet and respectful. No joking while crossing. Let the driver do the talking.
3.Baggage Guidelines
You are allowed one large (check-in) and one small (carry-on). Remember when packing that the airlines do have weight and height limitations. Remember when packing there are new rules and regulations about what may be carried on. Please check and ensure you are following the proper guidelines before arriving at the airport. 4.Dress
Dress should be modest. Remember men you must wear shirts at all times. Dress should be modest and adhering to Christian values (i.e. no bad or negative logos/slogans). It is not recommended to wear jewelry that is expensive or meaningful.
5.Meals
Please eat what is set before you. Clean up after yourself. Meal times will be around: breakfast 7-8:30, lunch 1-2, dinner 6:30-8. Drink 8-10 glasses of water a day. Drink only water provided by strategic alliance or purchased in bottle. Two people will be responsible for filling water coolers daily.
6.Money/Valuables
You can use US currency at bigger stores but change is given in Pesos and the exchange rate is bad. You are responsible for everything you bring on the trip. Do not bring anything you would be upset about if lost or stolen. Do not leave valuables or money out in hotel room.
7.Communication
Try to learn some Spanish. Be friendly. Girls, ignore remarks from Mexican boys. We are known as “loud Americans,” so let’s have a quiet and peaceful spirit.
8.Medical Information
Report all physical needs to your leader. There is a nurse and clinic available for minor sicknesses and injuries. Medical emergencies will be taken over border to Texas. Carry your medication in your carry-on. You are responsible for your personal medication. An updated tetanus and Hep A is recommended.
9.Vans
NO chewing gum in vans. Drinks must have twist top. Trash bags are provided, please use them. Clean vans out EVERY evening
10. Accommodations
You will be staying in a hotel and sharing a room with one to three other people, depending on numbers, some may not be from your group. There is no air conditioning. DO NOT flush toilet paper or personal hygiene products; a wastebasket is provided. Always carry toilet tissue in your backpack to the worksite each day.
11. Phone Use
Some cell phones do have reception or you can purchase an international calling card. It is recommended that you that you make the necessary arrangements before you leave so this is limited.
12. Emergency
Your family will be able to contact you in case of emergency. You will have the contact information before you leave.
