Has God forgotten us? -

1. Genesis 8:1 ...And God remembered Noah - ...." In Scripture when something is said about God remembering, this signals a major act of redemption for the ones remembered.
And God remembers...

Gen 9:15 "I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.

Gen 19:29 So it was that, when God destroyed the cities of the valley, God remembered Abraham and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow when he overthrew the cities in which Lot had lived.

Gen 30:22 Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb.

Ex 2:24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

Ex 6:5 "Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the people of Israel whom the Egyptians hold as slaves, and I have remembered my covenant.

God's remembering of Noah explicitly begins his major design for bringing about worldwide redemption; the record of that design stretches from Genesis 8 through Genesis 50.1

a. First glimpse of hope- THE RAIN STOPS. God is not surprised by our hard times - John 16:33 - In this world you will have trouble - but take heart; I have overcome the world.

b. God's sovereign power over the world - GEN 8:1-2 He made the wind blow - the fountains of the deep and the windows of heaven were closed - the rain was restrained

c. Salvation- God keeps His promises -

2. A family stranded: The ark has been at sea for over 5 months - Genesis 8:2-14

a. Noah's Faith - Hebrews 11:7 - By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. 2

b. Leaning on God's promise to redeem - vs Gen 6:18 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark; you and your sons and your wife and your sons' wives with you.

c. Our Faith - Hebrews 11:1 Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

i. What do you hope for? Are you sure of it?

ii. What are you certain of? There's not much to be...

d. In Jesus - Redeemer, savior

Faith and hope in hopeless places - comes from a life that is surrendered to Christ -

Col 1:13-20 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

e. Glorifying God in hopeless times - a missional faith- What does a Noah's ark sized faith look like to this lost world? As we live in the world and let others see us in tough situations-(death, divorce, disease, financial woes, how big a picture of Jesus are we painting with our faith? A heart that has tasted reason to hope, reason to faith. - Strengthened faith during the 377 days - James 1 - Consider it pure joy... GOAL JOHN 3:30

i. Noah's faith that he would walk on solid ground again soon-

1. the Raven - carrion bird that would have gone to eat when earth was habitable again. plenty of food.

2. The dove - a bird that is disposed to returning to home -

3. 2nd dove - God lead it to bring back olive branch - almost on land.

ii. Being sure of what was hoped for but not yet seen.

iii. Hall of Faith -Test of Faith- Our desires for the trouble we are in to be over, our authentic expectations that it WILL be over, and our questions to God about when that will be, will be consistent with the sincerity of our faith and patience.

iv. Is. 28:16 - NO RETREAT! Run away run away.- 'Whoever believes will not be in haste.' To make haste= make haste-flee in hasty alarm; but the Septuagint has "be ashamed"; so Ro 9:33, and 1Pe 2:6,

v. Praise God for Mt. Ararat.- HOPE hits the boat.

vi. Rest comes- ark rested on Mt. Ararat- Rest comes from God even when everything in the world points at turmoil, exhaustion, hopelessness- Is. 40:31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

3. God's a promise keeper - onto dry land Genesis 8:15-19 THEN GOD SAID...

a. James 1 kind of faith

b. Ps. 126:1 the Lord has done great things for us Noah and family didn't have anyone to share this with...yet...350 more years of life to tell his faith story of How God kept his promise. 50 years older than yoda. Faith stories told to grandchildren and their grandchildren.

4. Conclusion:

a. WHEN trouble comes (John 16:33) Can you take Heart

b. Have you felt forgotten by God? What is your Mt. Ararat of Hope?

c. What is our hope in Noah's ark sized trouble? James 1

d. Carrying our missional hope and faith with us ALL the time- The world needs to see successful faith in hard times not just easy good times.
