Mark 3:1-2 - 2 And they watched Jesus, ... so they might accuse him. Jesus was now being spied on by the religious powers. Why? They wanted to bring him down. He had so disturbed their beliefs, their reputations, and in the mind of the leaders - he had the potential to disturb their careers. So they watched for Jesus (God) to make a mistake they could ruin him with.

(...and they went and told Jesus. - Matt. 14:12) Herod executes John the Baptist because he promised half his kingdom to the daughter of His wife. In a moment of bad judgment and lust, Herod gives the head of John to the girl. John's death, a larger part of God's plan, is ultimately reported to Jesus and while no doubt not a surprise is still painful.

Tevye - Because of our traditions, we've kept our balance for many, many years. Here in Anatevka, we have traditions for everything... How to sleep, how to eat... how to work... how to wear clothes. For instance, we always keep our heads covered, and always wear a little prayer shawl that shows our constant devotion to God. You may ask, "How did this tradition get started?" I'll tell you!

Mark 14:32-36
The humanity of Jesus is on display as he grieves the "cup" – the wrath of God poured on Him for sin. He takes His closest friends with Him to pray and He asks for another way for God to fulfill His will.
NOTICE HIS WILL – it was fragile – He wanted to die. Wow! Our will is weak and fragile.

Mark 15:37-39
1) Jesus dies – The cross has finished the job and all that Jesus came to do He did. He fully paid the price for our sin as He physically suffered, was separated spiritually from His Father, and physically died. It was done as far as the payment goes. But it was not done – if this is where the story ends you and I would not and could not know God or follow Him.
The Centurion
